Local First Responders Collaborate/ Train for Disaster Response

Volunteers, first reponders, and emergency managers from all over Whatcom County gathered together to participate in an Emergency Operations Center exercise yesterday. Over 60 participants attended the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management and the Whatcom Unified Emergency Management sponsored table top exercise titled Operation January Dusk. Numerous locals such as the City of Bellingham’s Assistant Fire Chief Bill Hewett, and Emergency Manager of the Nooksack Tribe, Glen Yorks, were present for this exercise.

Western Washington University and the Bellingham School District had personnel present as well. The three-hour exercise provided training for members of the Whatcom Incident Management Team as well as a chance for university and the school district to train with first responders.
