Family Plan
If you live with anyone besides yourself, the family plan is a critical part of emergency preparedness. The goal of the family plan is to make sure everyone in your home knows how to contact each other if you're not together when a disaster strikes, how to reunite, and some strategies for likely situations.
FEMA's ready.gov website has a great Family Emergency Plan
that you can download and fill out. It will get you started in the right direction. Once you complete it, have a family meeting and discuss what you'd do in an emergency.
Going Further
Once you've completed your family plan, check out the emergency plans where your family members spend time: work, school and daycare. You might discover that there isn't a plan. If that's the case, maybe you can volunteer to help create one.
